Another gift book suggestion from Rocky's Mountain Books. This time it's about Beer..the hoppy nectar of the gods. A kegger wouldn't be the same without beer, and there are times when a good, cold, fresh brewski is complete nirvana.
So you'd think there wouldn't be much to say about a book titled, A Taste for Beer, by Stephen Beaumont. Turns out that, to a beer aficionado, there's A LOT to say. "Beer is the smoky richness of a porter and the crisp bitterness of a pilsner. It is the warming depth of a doppelbock and the fruity tang of a wheat beer, the reflective complexity of a barley wine and the foresty charm of a best bitter".
The author talks about the gentrification of beer over the years as handcrafted brews continue to gain popularity. He offers recipes for cooking with beer, and we're not talking just stews and soups. Yummy recipes like Pork and Yam Ragout with Caribbean Stout. He shows you that beer does have a place at the dinner table with careful consideration to "beer pairing". Nice book for anyone who likes beer. Or cooking with beer. Or cooking while drinking beer. You get the idea.
